Slackertown kicks cable to the curb....?

Posted By:  Mr. Chris on Tuesday - January 13 2009

OK so my dream has finally come true.   You might ask what is this dream that a slacker has, well that is simple I want to be able to watch my TV show and internet shows all in one place.   I have had 3 or 4 xbox media centers for a bit now so I can watch all my ripped movies. ( Yes ripped not downloaded.)  The problem with xbmc is that it is hard to see podcast in an easy way you have to have a 2nd system sitting around downloading them or you can use the apple TV way but the menus being so basic really makes that suck.  So along comes BOXEE the xbmc mod that makes it rule. Really I can get hulu on my apple tv and podcast and shoutcast fuck ya,  Ever since I have had this up and running I have cut back on using my tivo.   I am starting to think I can live with out cable I am going to try it next week and see if I can deal if so I can save about 90 buck a month and well that is a Apple TV over 3 months or so till all my TV’s have one.   I do feel bad walking away from my tivo but I really have no choice not that 90% of what I want can be had online with less adds I think TV is on the way out.  The only one who I think will miss it is my roommate who like sports but he don’t pay the bills so if he wants sports in HD he can pay 90 bucks a month for it.  If you get a BOXEE account let me know so I can add you as a buddy.

Drink this Election away with Slackertown.com

Posted By:  Mr. Chris on Tuesday - November 04 2008

The election is back on us and we are looking for your drunken political Phone calls.  So crank up the CNN and watch as the next leader of or great country is decided and have a couple drinks and give us a call.  As always 321-600-1200 and you never know what goodies we have to give out for the highest rated calls.   So go vote for the president and then come on over to slackertown and vote for your favorite message.

                                                                                Thanks,

                                                                                                Mr.Chris

SlackerTown.com the move is over....

Posted By:  Mr. Chris on Thursday - August 14 2008

OK so we had to move hosts...  The old one could not handle the amount of drunk people using the site.

Our new host has promised me that they can do a better job.  Now that all the hard work is done it is time to have some fun.  First on the List is a nice drunk pub crawl this weekend in Winter Park.  So if you are in the area and want to jump in send me a E-mail.  Next we are building a street team.  The team will be a group of people who like to go out and have fun and talk about the site.  Any one who makes the cut will get a bag of slackertown stuff to give out.   If you want to be in the runnings just drop me a E-mail with Street Team in the subject line and we will put you on the list.

The Black Rabbits @ the Haven Lounge

Posted By:  The Man! on Thursday - March 20 2008

<Insert Alt Tag>

The Black Rabbits are young, talented, and lucky for them smack dab in the middle of the retro rock revolution. At the core of the group are brothers Jetson (guitar/vocals) and Skyler (drums) Black with bassist Reah Smith. Finally taking the stage at 11:30pm Jetson smartly kept the talking to a minimum, keeping the thinning Thursday night crowd and letting the band’s personality come thru the music.

One opening act, obviously waiting around only for their take of the door, spent the entire 1st song making fun of the Black Rabbits. But if someone references Bye Bye Birdie chances are they know it all too well. The Black Rabbits are more Ramones in look than Bye Bye Birdie. Yet by the 3rd song that entire band was bobbing their heads and drumming their fingers. With just their simple but catchy tunes like “Pretty Baby” and “Emotion” The Black Rabbits not only won over their peers but doubled their audience by drawing in the pool players from the next room.

Although technically better than many bassists 10 years her senior, at 15 years old, Reah Smith has not yet developed her confidence as a performer.  With time maybe her stage presence will improve. Her harmonies were in tune and added depth to Jetson’s well-written songs. Still, watching a performance of someone that young on a Thursday night in a bar is kind of creepy.

The Black Rabbits take all the best elements of music from the past 40 years and leave listeners with a tune they’re humming days later. The musical stew that is The Black Rabbits has some Buddy Holly and a little of the Ramones, with dashes of classic rock, emo (Yes. It can be good.), and grunge. The former pool players, rival bands, and newly converted fans all ate it up. If  those in attendance can’t get the tunes out of their head they’ll ‘Hurry Hurry’ back to a Black Rabbits show very soon.
